| Bien que très souvent oubliée lorsque l'on parle d'aquaculture, la conchyliculture est une des branches et non la moindre des cultures marines. Cette activité a depuis très longtemps fait ses preuves et sa rentabilité n'est plus à démontrer. La production annuelle française de coquillages d'élevage bien qu'assez fluctuante se situe aux environs de 97.000 T pour les huîtres creuses , 6000 T pour les huîtres plates et 50.500 T pour les moules. Malgré ces productions importantes la mytiliculture ne peut répondre à la demande, et les importations sont chiffrées à 35.000 T de moules soit 69% de la production nationale. Le marché de l'huître, par contre, est beaucoup moins déficitaire puisque les importations ne sont que d'un millier de tonnes, quoique, depuis... |

| To meet the demand of the Region Languedoc-RoussiIlon for developing the culture of the european flat oyster Ostrea edulis as a diversification of traditional and off-shore bivalve molluscs cultivation techniques, a first series of experiments on the remote-setting of this species was conducted at the IFREMER Station of Palavas. | Le laboratoire de Biologie conchylicole de l'I.S.T.P.M. de Séte suit depuis de nombreuses années l'évolution des cultures dans l'étang de Thau. Ses travaux ont déjà conduit à la mise en oeuvre du réaménagement des zones conchylicoles qui, depuis 1970, substitue progressivement à une disposition anarchique et trop dense des parcs une implantation rationnelle et un large espacement afin d'accroître la production et d'améliorer la qualité. | L'évaluation de la biomasse de mollusques en élevage dans l'étang de Thau a été établie au cours des étés 1981 à 1987, afin de préciser son importance, et d'en suivre l'évolution tant au point de vue quantitatif qu'en ce qui concerne les modifications des techniques de culture. Ce travail a aussi permis de quantifier l'impact des élevages sur le milieu, d'estimer l'importance de.la filtration, de la biodéposition, et de la quantité de plancton consommée pour l'élaboration de la biomasse en suspension. |

| Since 1980, the IFREMER research laboratory "Resources Aquacoles", Sete (France), follows during the summer period, the evolution of the commercial stocks of molluscs (mussels and oysters) reared in Thau Lagoon. The data for this estimation are collected, on one hand, by surface observations and, on the other hand, by diving observations. During the years 1980 to 1984, the authors noticed an increase of oyster biomass, during the same period the mussel biomass decreased. The different simulations used to know the total filtration and the biodeposit, have shown that the impact of the increase of the total biomass is not so important as it could be feared. |

| In 1973 the" Institut des Peches Maritimes (Centre de Sete) "prospected the Mediterranean coasts to obtain information about the possibilities of collecting flat oyster (Ostrea edulis) spat. Plastic collectors were submerged at 20 stations in the Golfe du Lion. In spite of some lose of equipment, observations have allowed to see that spat densities were excellent (5.5 to 9.4 per dm2 of collector) in most areas. |

| On the French Mediterranean coast, the Thau Lagoon is the main area for mussel and oyster culture, with 1200 hectars devoted to shellfish culture. Some important modifications have been brought to this stretch of water as : digging of a new canal between the open sea and the lagoon, reorganization of the shellfish culture area, free boarding of the North shore. Many physico-chemical data (temperature, oxygen, salinity, pH, phosphorus, nitrate, nitrits) are available, from 1963 till 2000. | This report presents the main results for 2002 of the eight points in the Lagune de Thau, in accordance with the monitoring network REMORA: 3 national points and 5 regional added by the «Laboratoire Conchylicole de Méditerranée». Only adults batch is observed in the Mediterranean sea. This year the mortality ratio is low (< 5 %), without significant differences between areas. Like for the whole national network, the average individual weight are less than previous years in Bouzigues and Marseillan area ; in opposite Mèze area has better results. Bouzigues area presents the best productivity rate (3.1) and the worst in the middle of the zone. The AFNOR index, calculed in December, allows to classify the oysters like "spéciales".
